Good to know

Plan around Shabbat
From Friday afternoon to Saturday evening most buses and the light rail stop, and many shops and some restaurants close. Carmel Market is busiest on Friday morning. Beaches, Jaffa and the port stay busy all weekend.
Get around by bike or scooter
The city is flat, with bike lanes on Rothschild Boulevard and along the whole promenade from Jaffa to the port. Tel-O-Fun city bikes and rental scooters are everywhere. For longer rides, use the Red Line light rail or Gett taxis.
Swim where there are lifeguards
Swim only on beaches with a lifeguard on duty and follow the flags: black means no swimming. In summer, go to the beach early in the morning or after 4pm to avoid the strongest sun.
