Day 1 is iconic Venice: St Mark's Basilica, the Doge's Palace and the Bridge of Sighs, the Rialto Bridge over the Grand Canal, then an evening in Dorsoduro. It's about 2.2 km of walking between stops.

Day 2 is the islands and hidden Venice: Murano for glassmaking, Burano for its colourful houses, back to the city for Libreria Acqua Alta, then cicchetti and wine in Cannaregio.

Good to know

Get a water bus pass
Single vaporetto tickets are expensive. For day 2, a 24 or 48-hour ACTV pass usually pays for itself.
Check the day-tripper fee
Venice charges an access fee to day visitors on some dates. Hotel guests are exempt but may need to register. Check the city's official site before you go.
Use the map, not signs
Venice's lanes are a maze. Follow the yellow 'Per Rialto' and 'Per S. Marco' signs between the main sights.
