The 8 wineries

Tuscany's wine country is as beautiful as the wine is good. Most estates welcome visitors for tours and tastings, but almost all need a booking. Especially in harvest season (September-October).

We've grouped the map so you can plan a day per area: Chianti Classico between Florence and Siena, Montalcino and Montepulciano in the south, and Bolgheri on the coast.

All 8 wineries: dates, details & directions

  1. Chianti Classico

A spectacular modern winery built into the hillside, 30 minutes from Florence. Tours end with a tasting overlooking the vines.

Tip: The easiest big-name winery to reach from Florence.

Via Cassia per Siena 133, 50026 Bargino (FI)

  2. Chianti Classico

An organic estate in the famous 'Conca d'Oro' bowl below Panzano. Small tours, serious wines and a very personal welcome.

Via San Leolino 89, 50022 Panzano in Chianti (FI)

  3. Chianti Classico

The castle where the Chianti formula was born. Visit the gardens and ramparts, then taste in the cellar below.

Good to know

Book every tasting
Walk-ins are rare. Book online a week or more ahead, especially in September and October.
Don't drink and drive
Italy's limit is low (0.5 g/l, zero for new drivers). Use the spittoon, a driver or a tour.
Two or three a day
Distances on winding roads are longer than they look. Plan two or three visits plus lunch.
Shipping is easy
Most estates ship cases abroad. Ask during your tasting rather than packing bottles.
