The 15 things to do

What to do in Budapest at Christmas 2026? This map shows 15 festive things to do, from the free light show on St. Stephen's Basilica and ice skating in City Park to night bathing at Rudas and a light trail through the garden of the Gödöllő Royal Palace.

Lots of it is free: the basilica light show, the Fisherman's Bastion terraces, the Christmas markets on Vörösmarty Square and in Óbuda, and the view from the Danube. Ice rinks, concerts, baths and the Gödöllő light trail cost money.

Budapest gets dark around 16:00 in December, so the lights, the basilica show and the palace light trail all work early in the evening. Dates for the 2026/27 season were checked at each venue; the City Park rink still sets its opening day by the weather, so check before you go.
